Redwood High School Softball Field Renovation

Larkspur, CA

Tamalpais Unified High School District
Spring/Summer 2006

As a part of a larger District-wide renovation project, Hanford ARC was contracted to restore the existing field to a useful asset for Redwood High School. The softball field was not currently being used as a ball field. The district had previously installed aggregate base under several temporary classrooms on the outfield area of the field. Under direction of Vanir Construction Management and design by Carducci and Associates, Inc., Hanford ARC began the extensive renovation. We removed the base, 6000 SF of asphalt pavement, existing irrigation, electrical lines and an electrical vault.

The project required all new irrigation for new sod and extensive planting and over 18,500 feet of electrical wiring for a state of the art remote control scoreboard, lighting and irrigation controllers. Concrete piers were dug and poured for the scoreboard poles and the foul poles. The field was graded and resurfaced with PacBell infield mix and the new sod was installed.

Concrete dugouts were constructed and amenities such as bleachers, drinking fountains and receptacles were placed.

Hanford ARC subcontracted for the installation of nearly 10,000 square feet of asphalt for the pedestrian access areas and two sets of bleachers were installed with handicap access.

Hanford ARC remained under contract and maintained the field for 90 days. Per contract, maintenance was then handed over to the school district. Once used as a utility classroom area for the school, this beautiful softball field is now known throughout the district as the ‘field of green’.
