Dunphy Park Phase 2
The project consists of construction activities within the southern portion of Dunphy Park and the adjacent shoreline, including work areas designated as environmentally sensitive habitat and portions of a former landfill. Phase 1 of the park was completed in 2017, and the facility has remained operational since that time. Accordingly, Phase 2 improvements will be implemented with careful consideration for maintaining public access, protecting sensitive resources, and ensuring compliance with all applicable environmental regulations and permit requirements.
Phase 2 completes the remaining elements of the original master plan and is focused on both ecological enhancement and public amenity improvements. Work includes implementation of stormwater pollution prevention and erosion control measures, followed by site preparation activities such as clearing and grubbing, invasive species removal, contaminated soil management and disposal, demolition of existing pathways, and earthwork operations including on-site material processing and subgrade preparation. Shoreline stabilization improvements—including installation of a rock toe, granite block terrace, and erosion control fabric integrated with saline-tolerant plantings—are designed to improve long-term shoreline resiliency and enhance ecological function through the creation of a living shoreline system.
Additional Work
Additional scope includes site grading to achieve design elevations and drainage patterns; construction of accessible pedestrian pathways utilizing Granitecrete surfacing in compliance with ADA standards; and installation of native and climate-adaptive landscaping to support habitat establishment and long-term sustainability. An irrigation system will be installed to support plant establishment and ongoing maintenance.
Site amenities include the installation of benches, picnic tables, and trash receptacles to enhance public use and recreational value. The project also includes coordination with existing and proposed utilities, including identification, protection, relocation, and installation as required to support project improvements.
